Sixth Firefly - [Voice]/[Action]

[Lately all Seto can think about is home, probably because he has nothing better to do when laying in his bed.  Images of what's left of the cities and small villages flash through his mind.  Everything is so dominated by the wildlife he has no idea what it could have been like for those who lived there before...whatever happened to his world.  

But it dawns on him, other people must've lived in an alternate Japan right?  So why not ask them?  It'll give him something to do too so might as well.]

I've heard that some people here are from Japan.  A different Japan than other's but they're all similar in some way and I was wondering...what's it like there?  Are there a lot of people?  Is the red tower special?

[He goes quiet for a moment then lets out a soft, almost sad sounding chuckle]  I'm sorry, I'm just a little curious... [A pause] O-Of course I wouldn't mind hearing about other worlds too.  Anything is fine..

[Once the sun goes down, Seto will be out on the roof of community building three, just laying there to stare up at the stars.  To be honest it brings him comfort when he stares at shining lights in the sky.  For the past ten years at home, they have been his only company since his grandpa and him never really talked all too much, especially near the end of his life.

In any case, he'll be up there for a good majority of the night, he may even fall asleep]

All right. I'll bring one by in just a while.

[And, sure enough, in about half an hour Seto will get a knock on his door. Opening it will reveal Giles, carrying a very large book and a plastic bag.]

Okay!!

[Seto will wait very patiently on the couch and as soon as he hears the knock, he dashes for the door and opens it, staring at the book in his hand] T-That's huge...where did you get that??

[Action]

The library. Where else?

[He looks around for a table to set the book down on.] Much as I might wish otherwise, the Malnosso have not been kind enough to provide me, personally, with very many books.

[Seto grabs Giles arm and leads him over to the couch and in front of said couch is a coffee table] Did they not bring a lot of the books you like here?

[Giles lets himself be tugged. He sets the book down on the coffee table and flips it open. Maps over various places at various times flash past, before he settles on a world map.]

Yes, they did. But, um, they're all in the library's care. N-Not mine. That's, um, a good bit of why I chose to work there.

[Seto just stares at the images on the pages as they flash past then scans the world map, almost like he's memorizing it]

Oh.... [Wait] You work at the library Giles??

You didn't know that? My apologies, then. Because I have, more or less since the day I got back. Even if my working schedule isn't always the most consistent, thanks to the Malnosso.

Oh, I see! What do they Malnosso do to where you can't work consistently? [Pout]

Kidnappings, generally. And, um, the associated effects. Not to mention how susceptible I seem to be to experiments.

O-Oh....you're kidnapped by the Malnosso a lot? What effects have you come back with before?

[This upsets him a little. He can't proetct Giles from them...]

O-Oh, um, no, not very often. Really, it's, um, it's only been about three times, and that's both times I've been here. Their effects just tend to be a bit, um, lasting, like when I was blind, and...

[Oh, look, they've found the map of Japan, Giles passes the very large book over to Seto.]

And...?

[Seto's eyes travel down towards the book as it's passed over to him and he just stares at it, examining and taking in all of the cities and towns. There are so many places, just in Japan....how could everyone have died...]

[Wordlessly, Giles flips a few more pages, showing Seto smaller, more detailed maps of Japan's regions, districts, and many, many cities.]

[His focus grows more and more on the more detailed maps, eyes running over each page like he's trying to memorize where each city is, the distance between them and what all is surrounding it. If he can remember all of this when he goes home then he can find everything a lot easier!!]

Japan is quite a busy country, back home.

A great many reasons, really. There are a great many people in a relatively small space, they build a lot of things the rest of the world needs, and they need things from the rest of the world.

...I take it that this isn't the case back in your world, Seto?

...[He won't say it, but he's jealous. He shakes his head]

There aren't any people back home so nothing is built anymore. Instead everything just becomes ruins. [A sad smile] I wish I could see Japan busy again.

[In retrospect, he's...not sure why this surprises him. Just that it does. But knowing Seto and seeing what he's seen, it...probably shouldn't.]

N-No, there isn't anyone anymore...

[He looks down at his finger that's tapping on the book, tracing and poking at the different town names and lines that signify streets and rivers]

[Almost unconsciously, Giles catches himself mimicking Seto's actions. Tracing street names, the roads between cities, looking and really seeing just how the country fits itself together.]

[His finger doesn't stop tracing the different lines and names as he reads each one]

[At that moment, his finger stops moving around aimlessly and in it's place, his entire body begins to tremble just a little. On the verge of tears, he takes a shaky breath]
